Faciant Participation 2013/14

The RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg is the 4th largest publicly-owned Convention Centre in Canada and has been hosting meetings, conventions and tradeshows since 1975.

This premier event facility is changing the skyline of Winnipeg with a $180+ million expansion.
The RBC Convention Centre will almost double in size growing to 264,000 square feet of rentable space including an additional ballroom and over 135,000 of exhibition space. The existing RBC Convention Centre’s spaces are also undergoing technology upgrades to accommodate large conventions, trade and consumer shows.

The expansion is being built to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Standards.

In 2013, Faciant Consulting was brought on to support the project in the following areas:

Technology RFP Development and Evaluation
• Development of a performance based specification document that was integral component of two RFPs put forward to obtain a partner that would provide network infrastructure and technology solutions for the expanded convention centre facility. Performance based specification addressed structured cabling, pathways and spaces, power and environmental requirement, WAN, LAN, WLAN, Telephony, DAS, Audio/Video, Broadcast, PTV/CATV, Digital Signage, Public Access Services and RFID.
• Review, evaluation and scoring of Proponent responses to the two tenders issued for the technology program.

Technology Design Reviews
• Reviewed and commented on multiple iterations of the network infrastructure design issued by Stuart Olsen Dominion Group’s Design Team. This included review of electrical, mechanical and architectural designs to determine impact on the network infrastructure.
• Represented the Owner’s interest in meetings with architects, engineers, suppliers and contractors

Cellular Design – Working with our partner, Crossover Distribution, Faciant completed a high level design and budget to provide cellular and land based radio services in the Expansion Facility

Technical Site Audit – Evaluated IT spaces, cabling infrastructure and hardware in the existing facility in order to determine the scope of the technology upgrade required for the existing facility.
